The Vampire Elder Amelia

Biography: Canon

Centuries ago, (much before 1202 AD according to Blood Enemy) Amelia was bitten by the first vampire Marcus. She was turned in order to help control the chaos created by Marcus's brother William, the first lycan. William's inability to change back into human form caused trouble among the human society. William's rage could not be controlled, as the lycan virus spread across the land, it turned people into lycans or killed all in its path. Amelia had supported locking William within a coffin-like prison, in a remote place away from where Marcus could find him. She became one of the three Vampire Elders, alongside Marcus and Viktor, but somewhat allied with Viktor who sought to undermine Marcus' authority.

During the events of Underworld, she was at the end of her century reign. The Elders had a system to organize their reign of the two great covens. Every century a different elder is awake and reigns over the covens, while the other two remain in a sleeping state. During an elaborate ceremony the next elder is awoken with a small amount of blood from the current one, giving a detailed record of their reign and thus awakening them. Days before Amelia was to awaken Marcus following the order of this chain, lycans ambushed her and her entourage on the train which they took to the mansion. She was bled dry by a lycan henchman named Raze, in Lucian's plot to create a lycan-vampire hybrid..

Abilities

Amelia: Abilities

In 1202 during a battle to capture William, a Death Dealer rode up to Viktor and said, "We found him....we need more men." Viktor ordered, "Find Amelia". Amelia in 1202 is a strong, capable vampire elder/princess able to fight against the Lycans in battle and corral William. She is strong-willed and yells out, "more" when William needed to be put down, despite Marcus' pleas. Hence, in this light it easier to believe that she sided more with Viktor than Marcus.

Besides what is written in generic sources about her strength and speed, it can be speculated that she is able to do what younger vampires do in the movie such as defy gravity (Erika), jump off of roofs (Selene), heal rapidly. One would imagine that as an elder she can do more though what the elders can do is never really highlighted in the movies. As an elder she is able to have some sort of control over blood memories. She can organize her thoughts to pass the history of her reign through the blood. This makes one wonder if she can fabricate what happened and suggests that she can control which memories she passes onto another.

Creative license: Although it's never discussed in the movie, my Amelia is able to sense the vampires that she has made and has a blood link with them.

The Underworld

Traits: Royality (she was Princess Amelia before she was turned by Marcus), diplomatic, respected, much adored, ancient, powerful, immortal (however, like Viktor she can be killed), strategic,distinguised, 'blueblood', leader, courage.

Amelia is the only known female vampire Elder in the Underworld mythos. She appeared briefly in Underworld and appeared in a flashback sequence in Underworld: Evolution. She is portrayed by Zita Görög.

History

The first immortal, Alexander Corvinus, passed on his immortality strain to two of his three sons, Marcus and William. Marcus was bitten by a bat, and he inherited the characteristics of a bat. Marcus became the first Vampire, and thus the first Vampire Elder.
Marcus then turned the Hungarian Warlord Viktor, in exchange for his military intelligence along with the Adored Princess Amelia, who ruled over vast regions in that time, in exchange for her Royal influence. They were to help him capture his brother William. After he turned Viktor’s Military Army, and Amelia's Royal Knights into vampires, his troops later became the Death Dealers. As the Oldest and Strongest Vampires, they became the 3 Vampire Elders. The Warlord Viktor was the most Powerful. The Princess Amelia was the most Respected. The First Vampire Marcus however, was undermined and over-shadowed.

Politics

Viktor and Amelia both sought to undermine Marcus' authority, but Viktor believed the lie that should Marcus or William die, the rest of the species would die with them. Thus, he never sought Marcus' death.

The Vampire Elders have an intricate system known as the 'Chain', during which one Elder rules while the other two slumbers in the crypt in Ordoghaz, for every century. This was probably devised after William was captured. Generally, only an elder will awaken another, for they have the ability to organize their thoughts into a cohesive record for the next Elder to refer to; however, it is possible for any blood to provoke an awakening.

Characteristics

Vampire Elders looks like any Vampire. However, they possess enhanced strength and speed that are far above those of the average Vampire. They are also able to take blows that would have taken down an ordinary opponent.
